In 2008 BMW released the X6 xDrive50i to the truck-buying market. The X6 came in two configurations: xDrive35i and xDrive50i. The xDrive50i configuration is powered by the 4.4-liter eight-cylinder engine, which makes 20 highway miles and 15 city. The X6 competes in the Sport Utility market segment, in direct competition with Kia.

The restyled X6 xDrive50i is equipped with a 4.4-liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 32 valves. The engine is mated to a ZF six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2007 version.
