Sales for the 911, especially the 911 Carrera 4S, were brisk during 2008 and 2009. The improved vehicle quality and the modern styling were responsible for the boost in sales.

The 2005 911 is an important vehicle to Porsche for the coupe market segment. The Carrera 4S is a member of a series of seven trim levels for the 911 which include Carrera, Carrera 4S, Turbo, Turbo S, GT2, GT3, and Carrera S. The two-door car with its all-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Porsche. There is strong competition from vehicles from Toyota.

A high point in the coupe market is the Porsche 911. In 2004 Porsche released an upgraded version of the 911 with six versions: 40th Anniversary Edition, Carrera 4S, GT2, GT3, and Turbo. Sales for the 911, especially the 911 Carrera 4S, were brisk during 2004 and 2005. The improved reliability and the sporty styling were responsible for the sales boost.

In 2007 Porsche released the 911 Carrera 4S to the car-buying market. The 911 came in nine configurations: Turbo, Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Carrera S, Targa 4, Targa 4S, GT3, and GT3 RS. The Carrera 4S configuration is powered by the 3.8-liter six-cylinder engine, which makes 25 highway miles and 17 - 18 city. The 911 competes in the Coupe market segment, in direct competition with Honda.
