A high point in the convertible market is the Porsche Boxster. In 2000 Porsche rolled out an upgraded version of the Boxster with two versions: Roadster and Roadster S. Sales for the Boxster, especially the Boxster Roadster, were brisk during 2000 and 2001. The improved reliability and the updated styling were responsible for the increased interest.
The 2000 Boxster is an important vehicle to Porsche for the convertible market segment. The Roadster S is a member of a series of two trim levels for the Boxster which include Roadster and Roadster S. The two-door car with its rear-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Porsche. There is strong competition from vehicles from Kia.
A lot has been said about the BMW Z8 for 2000. As BMW's entry in the convertible market the Z8 (and in this case specically the Base version) has maintained a solid reputation. The 2-door Z8 is especially appealing to wide market segment, making it a perfect car to help BMW as a brand in general.
The Z8 Base is equipped with a BMW 5.0 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 32 valves. The engine is mated to a Getrag 6-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for BMW.
