One of the staples of the Coupe segment is the Porsche 944. In the previous model year debuted a brand new version of the 944 with one versions: S2. Sales for the 944, especially the 944 S2, were brisk during 1991 and 1992. The improved vehicle quality and the modern styling were responsible for the boost in sales.

In 1991 Porsche released the 928 GT to the car-buying market. The 928 came in two configurations: Base and GT. The GT configuration is powered by the 5.0-liter eight-cylinder engine, which makes 19 highway miles and 13 city. The 928 competes in the Coupe market segment, in direct competition with Honda.
The 928 Base is equipped with a Porsche 5.0 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 32 valves. The engine is mated to a Mercedes-Benz 4-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Porsche.
