The Porsche Boxster S Limited Edition for 2008: Improving on 2007

Porsche Boxster

A high point in the convertible market is the Porsche Boxster. In 2008 Porsche rolled out an upgraded version of the Boxster with five versions: S, Base, S Limited Edition, and RS 60 Spyder. Sales for the Boxster, especially the Boxster S Limited Edition, were brisk during 2008 and 2009. The improved reliability and the sporty styling were responsible for the increased interest.

Under the Hood

The restyled Boxster S Limited Edition is equipped with a 3.4-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a N/A six-speed transaxle. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2007 version.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Boxster comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

Statistics

The Boxster is 171.60 inches long, 70.90 inches wide, and 50.90 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 95.10 inches. It is able to seat 2 comfortably.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $45,800 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-high price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2008 Boxster is a Bosch ME-7.8 system, running on gasoline . The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.

The 2008 Boxster gets 26 - 29 miles/gallon on the highway and only 19 - 20 in the city. This is subpar for a convertible car.

What We Think of the Porsche Boxster

The 2007 model began the promise of the Porsche Boxster. The 2008 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Porsche hopes that the Boxster S Limited Edition will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
