Insight Into the Porsche Boxster for 2004

Porsche Boxster

One of the staples of the Convertible segment is the Porsche Boxster. In the previous model year debuted a brand new version of the Boxster with three versions: S Special Edition and Base. Sales for the Boxster, especially the Boxster S Special Edition, were brisk during 2004 and 2005. The improved vehicle quality and the modern styling were responsible for the boost in sales.

Performance

The Boxster S Special Edition is equipped with a Porsche 3.2 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a Porsche 5-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Porsche.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Boxster has power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The fuel system for the 2004 Boxster is a traditional Bosch Motronic SFI, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 16.90 gallons.

Boxster S Special Edition Statistics

The dimensions of the Boxster S Special Edition are 70.10 inches wide by 170.10 inches long. It sits a comfortable 50.80 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 95.10 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The standard warranty period for the Boxster is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the convertible market.

The listed retail price in 2004 (MSRP) was $51,600, with an invoice cost of $45,001. This price is slightly higher than the industry average price for a two-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The Boxster S Special Edition received a miles-per-gallon rating of 17 - 18 in-city driving and twenty six when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was subpar.
