Not Your Father’s 928 – The 1991 Porsche 928 GT

In 1991 Porsche released the 928 GT to the car-buying market. The 928 came in two configurations: Base and GT. The GT configuration is powered by the 5.0-liter eight-cylinder engine, which makes 19 highway miles and 13 city. The 928 competes in the Coupe market segment, in direct competition with Honda.

Porsche 928 Engine Specs

The 928 GT is equipped with a Porsche 5.0 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 32 valves. The engine is mated to a Getrag 5-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Porsche.

The 928 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the 928 GT are 72.30 inches wide by 178.10 inches long. It sits a comfortable 50.50 inches off the ground. It seats a standard four passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 98.40 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $77,500 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-low price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Coupe.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 1991 928 is a traditional Bosch LH-Jetronic, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 22.70 gallons.

The 928 GT received a miles-per-gallon rating of thirteen in-city driving and nineteen when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was exceptional.

We Think...

The 1990 model began the promise of the Porsche 928. The 1991 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Porsche hopes that the 928 GT will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
