Improving on 1999′s Model: The 2000 Z8 Revisited

A lot has been said about the BMW Z8 for 2000. As BMW's entry in the convertible market the Z8 (and in this case specically the Base version) has maintained a solid reputation. The 2-door Z8 is especially appealing to wide market segment, making it a perfect car to help BMW as a brand in general.

Engine Performance

The restyled Z8 Base is equipped with a BMW 5.0-liter 8-cylinder engine that utilizes a total of 32 valves. The engine is paired with a Getrag 6-speed transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for BMW.

The Z8 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The Z8 is 173.20 inches long, 72.00 inches wide, and 51.90 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 98.60 inches. It is able to seat 2 comfortably.

The listed retail price in 2000 (MSRP) was $128,000, with an invoice cost of $115,360. This price is slightly higher than the industry average price for a two-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency
