Getting 29 – 30 Miles a Gallon: The BMW Z4 for 2007

BMW has been blessed with many award-winning designs, including the BMW Z4 of 2007. There are five trim levels to the Z4, including Coupe 3.0si, M Coupe, M Roadster, Roadster 3.0i, and Roadster 3.0si. The M Roadster version is one of the more popular options. Like in 2006 the popular 3.2 liter has made this a popular choice for convertible buyers around the world.

Performance

The Z4 M Roadster is equipped with a BMW 3.2 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a ZF 6-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for BMW.

The fuel system for the 2007 Z4 is a BMW MS design, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is regulated by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The storage capacity of the fuel tank is 14.50 gallons.

The Z4 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

Z4 M Roadster Statistics

The dimensions of the Z4 M Roadster are 70.10 inches wide by 161.90 inches long. It sits a comfortable 49.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 98.20 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $40,400 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $37,170. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

The standard warranty period for the Z4 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the convertible market.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2007 Z4 gets 29 - 30 miles/gallon on the highway and only 20 - 21 in the city. This is average for a convertible car.

In Summary

There are several reasons why the BMW Z4 M Roadster sold well in 2007. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a BMW, specifically a Z4.
