Not Your Father’s Z3 – The 2001 BMW Z3 Coupe

BMW Z3

There's been a lot of talk about the BMW Z3 for 2001. As a leading car in the coupe market the Z3 (and in this case specically the Coupe version) has maintained a good reputation. The 2-door Z3 is especially appealing to broad audience, making it a perfect car to help BMW as a brand in general.

BMW Z3 Engine Specs

Standard equipment in the Z3 for 2000 and 2001 includes the 3.0 liter engine by BMW, weighing in at 6 cylinders and twenty four valves. A 5-speed Standard Transmission puts the power of the engine to the pavement. This is a long-standing favorite for buyers in the Coupe arena.

The Z3 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The fuel system for the 2001 Z3 is a Siemens MS 43 system, running on gasoline . The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The 13.50-gallon tank provides the fuel storage for longer trips.

Vehicle Statistics

The Z3 is 158.50 inches long, 68.50 inches wide, and 51.40 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 96.30 inches. It is able to seat 2 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the Z3 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. There is also a warranty on the powertrain for 48 months or 50,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the coupe market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $37,700 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $34,090. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Coupe.

MPG Ratings

The Z3 Coupe received a miles-per-gallon rating of seventeen in-city driving and twenty three when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was exceptional.

The vehicle is available in Alpine White, Atlanta Blue Metallic , Black Sapphire Metallic, Bright Red, Bright Red II, Cosmos Black Metallic, Dakar Yellow, Impala Brown Metallic, Jet Black, Oxford Green Metallic, Siena Red Metallic, Steel Grey Metallic, Titanium Silver Metallic, and Topaz Blue Metallic.

We Think...

The 2001 model year was telling year for the BMW Z3. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the Coupe version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
