First Impressions of the BMW Z4 for 2008

BMW introduced the Z4 Roadster 3.0si in late 2007 to regain its grip on the Convertible market. There are 5 trim levels for the Z4 in 2008: . With two doors and spacious seating for two, the rear-wheel drive Z4 makes a statement. There is plenty of competition in the Convertible market, including strong offerings from Lexus.

Stop and Go

The restyled Z4 Roadster 3.0si is equipped with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a ZF six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2007 version.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Z4 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

Statistics

The Z4 is 161.10 inches long, 70.10 inches wide, and 51.10 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 98.20 inches. It is able to seat 2 comfortably.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $42,400 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $39,010. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2008 Z4 is a Siemens MS 70 system, running on gasoline . The fuel is regulated by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design.

The Z4 Roadster 3.0si received a miles-per-gallon rating of 18 - 19 in-city driving and twenty eight when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid car, this was within normal parameters.

The 2007 model began the promise of the BMW Z4. The 2008 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers BMW hopes that the Z4 Roadster 3.0si will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
