First Impressions of the BMW Z3 for 2001

BMW Z3

A lot has been said about the BMW Z3 for 2001. As BMW's entry in the coupe market the Z3 (and in this case specically the M Coupe version) has maintained a solid reputation. The 2-door Z3 is especially appealing to wide market segment, making it a perfect car to help BMW as a brand in general.

Performance

The Z3 M Coupe is equipped with a BMW 3.2 liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a ZF 5-speed Transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for BMW.

The Z3 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The fuel system for the 2001 Z3 is a BMW MS design, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is regulated by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The storage capacity of the fuel tank is 13.50 gallons.

Z3 M Coupe Statistics

The Z3 is 158.50 inches long, 68.50 inches wide, and 51.40 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 96.30 inches. It is able to seat 2 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the Z3 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the coupe market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $37,700 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $34,090. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Coupe.

Fuel Efficiency

The Z3 M Coupe received a miles-per-gallon rating of seventeen in-city driving and twenty three when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was subpar.

In 2000 and 2001 the Z3 M Coupe was availble in the exterior colors of Alpine White, Atlanta Blue Metallic , Black Sapphire Metallic, Bright Red, Bright Red II, Cosmos Black Metallic, Dakar Yellow, Impala Brown Metallic, Jet Black, Oxford Green Metallic, Siena Red Metallic, Steel Grey Metallic, Titanium Silver Metallic, and Topaz Blue Metallic.

In Summary

The 2000 model began the promise of the BMW Z3. The 2001 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers BMW hopes that the Z3 M Coupe will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
