Insight Into the BMW Z3 for 2000

BMW Z3

The restyled Z3 Roadster is equipped with a 2.5-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a GMC four-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 1999 version.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The Z3 comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

Vehicle Statistics

The dimensions of the Z3 Roadster are 68.50 inches wide by 159.40 inches long. It sits 50.90 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 96.30 allows for extra leg room for the rear passengers.

The standard warranty period for the Z3 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. There is also a warranty on the powertrain for 48 months or 50,000 miles respectively. This is standard in the convertible market.

The listed retail price in 2000 (MSRP) was $36,900, with a dealer invoice cost of $33,370. This price is on target the industry average price for a two-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2000 Z3 is a traditional Siemens MS, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 13.50 gallons.

The 2000 Z3 gets 26 miles/gallon on the highway and only 19 in the city. This is subpar for a convertible car.

We Think...

The 1999 model began the promise of the BMW Z3. The 2000 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers BMW hopes that the Z3 Roadster will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
