Buyers of the BMW Z3 are aware of the reputation of the car they are purchasing. The Z3 has been one of the premier vehicles of the BMW line for years. It is considered an institution of a car and the 2001 model is no exception. The BMW Z3 falls into the convertible for the family category. The restyled Z3 Roadster is equipped with a BMW 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine that utilizes a total of 24 valves. The engine is paired with a Getrag 5-speed transmission. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for BMW.

The Z3 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The car uses coil and coil springs front and rear respectively.

The fuel system for the 2001 Z3 is a traditional Siemens MS 43, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 13.50 gallons.

The dimensions of the Z3 Roadster are 68.50 inches wide by 158.50 inches long. It sits a comfortable 51.40 inches off the ground. It seats a standard two passengers, with 2 doors. The wheelbase of 96.30 allows for limited leg room for the backseat passengers.

The standard warranty period for the Z3 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the convertible market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $37,700 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $34,090. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The 2001 Z3 gets 23 miles/gallon on the highway and only 17 in the city. This is average for a convertible car.
