Our Review of the 2008 Audi S4 Base

Audi S4

The 2008 S4 is an important vehicle to Audi for the sedan market segment. The Base is a member of a series of three trim levels for the S4 which include Avant, Base, and Cabriolet. The four-door car with its all-wheel drive is positioned to aggressively fill this niche for Audi. There is strong competition from vehicles from Infiniti.

Performance

The S4 Base is equipped with a Volkswagen 4.2 liter eight-cylinder engine that utilizes 40 valves. The engine is mated to a Volkswagen 6-speed Transaxle. This configuration has proven to be a successful design for Audi.

Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The S4 has power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The car uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The 2008 S4's normal fuel system runs on gas. The fuel is regulated electronically, with a fuel-injected multi-port fuel injection (MFI) style of design. The fuel tank holds 14.50 gallons.

S4 Base Statistics

The S4 is 168.70 inches long, 77.40 inches wide, and 56.00 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 101.50 inches. It is able to seat 5 comfortably.

The standard warranty period for the S4 is 48 months, or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is standard in the sedan market.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $25,930 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $24,115. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sedan.

Fuel Efficiency

The S4 Base received a miles-per-gallon rating of twenty one in-city driving and twenty nine when it came to long-distance. Being a gas-powered non-green car, this was subpar.

In 2007 and 2008 the S4 Base was availble in the exterior colors of Brilliant Black, Brilliant Red, Deep Sea Pearl, Ibis White, Ice Silver Metallic, Lava Gray Pearl, Misano Red Pearl Effect, Ocean Blue Pearl Effect, and Sprint Blue. Additional options were made available by the factory.

In Summary

The 2007 model began the promise of the Audi S4. The 2008 expanded on this success and has proven to be a strong seller in most markets. Even with strong competition from other manufacturers Audi hopes that the S4 Base will continue to be a profitable vehicle.
