First Impressions of the BMW X5 for 2005

A high point in the sport utility market is the BMW X5. In 2005 BMW released an upgraded version of the X5 with three versions: 4.4i, 4.8is, and 3.0i. Sales for the X5, especially the X5 3.0i, were brisk during 2005 and 2006. The improved reliability and the sporty styling were responsible for the sales boost.
Under the Hood
The restyled X5 3.0i is equipped with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a ZF six-speed transmission. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2004 version.
Steering control is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The X5 comes equipped with power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. The truck uses coil front springs and coil in the rear.
Vehicle Statistics
The X5 is 183.70 inches long, 73.70 inches wide, and 69.00 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 111.00 inches. It is able to seat 5 comfortably.
The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $70,100 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $63,970. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sport Utility.
Fuel Efficiency
The fuel system for the 2005 X5 is a Siemens MS 43 design, using gasoline fuel. The fuel flow is controlled by a electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The fuel capacity of the fuel tank is 24.30 gallons.
The X5 3.0i received a miles-per-gallon rating of sixteen in-city driving and twenty one when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid truck, this was exceptional.
What We Think of the BMW X5
The 2005 model year was telling year for the BMW X5. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the 3.0i version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
