A high point in the sport utility market is the BMW X5. In 2004 BMW released an upgraded version of the X5 with three versions: 4.8is, 3.0i, and 4.4i. Sales for the X5, especially the X5 4.4i, were brisk during 2004 and 2005. The improved reliability and the sporty styling were responsible for the sales boost.

In 2007 Audi released the S6 Base to the car-buying market. The S6 came in one configurations: Base. The Base configuration is powered by the 5.2-liter ten-cylinder engine, which makes 21 highway miles and 15 city. The S6 competes in the Sedan market segment, in direct competition with Hyundai.
