Our Review of the 2008 BMW X3 3.0si

BMW X3

The BMW X3 is a 4-door truck available at your BMW dealer. The X3 came in one configurations: 3.0si and 3.0i. The 3.0si configuration is powered by the 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which makes 23 - 24 highway miles and 16 - 17 city. The X3 competes in the Sport Utility market segment, in direct competition with Kia.

BMW X3 Engine Specs

Standard equipment in the X3 for 2007 and 2008 includes the 3.0 liter engine by BMW, weighing in at 6 cylinders and twenty four valves. A 6-speed Automatic Transmission puts the power of the engine to the pavement. This is a long-standing favorite for buyers in the Sport Utility arena.

The fuel system for the 2008 X3 is a traditional Siemens MS 70, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 17.70 gallons.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The X3 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

The X3 is 179.90 inches long, 73.00 inches wide, and 65.90 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 110.10 inches. It is able to seat 5 comfortably.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $38,000 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of $34,960. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 4-door Sport Utility.

There is a 50,000 mile, 48 month warranty with this vehicle, including a powertrain warranty of 50,000/48 miles/months. This is normal for this price range.

Fuel Efficiency

The X3 3.0si received a miles-per-gallon rating of 16 - 17 in-city driving and 23 - 24 when it came to highway driving. Being a gas-powered non-hybrid truck, this was exceptional.

We Think...

The 2008 model year was telling year for the BMW X3. The introduction of several trim levels (along with the 3.0si version) meant that buyers could find the version that best suited their needs.
