Insight Into the Porsche 911 for 2008

Porsche 911

There have been several award-winning cars from Porsche over the years, including the Porsche 911 of 2008. There are ten trim levels to the 911, including Carrera 4, Turbo, GT2, GT3 RS, Carrera 4S, Carrera S, Targa 4, and Targa 4S. The Carrera version is one of the more popular options, outselling other configurations. Like in 2007 the popular 3.6 liter has made this a popular choice for convertible buyers nationwide.

Stop and Go

The restyled 911 Carrera is equipped with a 3.6-liter six-cylinder engine that utilizes 24 valves. The engine is mated to a N/A five-speed transaxle. This has resulted in an increase in horsepower and torque over the 2007 version.

The front brakes are disc while the rear brakes are disc. Steering is handled through a power-steering rack-style configuration. The 911 uses power-assisted brakes, with 4-Wheel ABS support. Load balancing is provided by coil front springs and coil in the rear.

Statistics

The 911 is 175.60 inches long, 71.20 inches wide, and 51.20 inches high. It has a wheelbase of 92.50 inches. It is able to seat 4 comfortably.

The original manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) was $83,800 when new, with a dealer invoice cost of an industry-high price. This price was in line with the industry average price for a 2-door Convertible.

Fuel Efficiency

The fuel system for the 2008 911 is a traditional Bosch ME-7.8, running on gasoline fuel. The fuel is controlled by an electronic system and is a fuel-injected MFI design. The capacity of the fuel tank is 16.90 gallons.

The 2008 911 gets 24 - 25 miles/gallon on the highway and only 17 in the city. This is below average for a convertible car.

Parting Shots

There are several reasons why the Porsche 911 Carrera sold well in 2008. Mainly the increase in availability and a marked improvement in quality meant the buying public was more apt to choose a Porsche, specifically a 911.
